The following came to me in an e-mail. Perhaps you've seen it. I think he's completely right about this, and I can almost hear him saying:
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.
You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

YES...
I totally agree. I think it is disheartening to work harder and longer for less take-home pay.
It is a travesty to see so many people "milk" the system.
I have a relative who has milked it far too long and relied on the system to give her thousands and thousands of dollars without having to contribute a thing... and blown it with nothing to show.
I have another relative who, due to legitimate disability, works as much as she can and still has to supplement her income with the fruits of others' labor. Also, uses her money wisely to make the most use out of the little amount she has to take.
Which would I rather support? Obviously the one who is trying to be self-supporting and taking only what is absolutely necessary in her time of need. They system, when used in the proper way, is fine with me. Used the wrong way, like it is too much, like the other person, is just a drain on the system and a frustrating reality for where our money goes sometimes.
Thanks for sharing this quote. Interesting to see where we are with this in 2012, eh?
